Korean War
by Nate Diep
-25 June 1950 – 27 July 1953
- Republic of Korea (South) and UN vs Democratic People's Republic of Korea (North)
- Korea divided at the 38th Parallel, with US occupying South, and Soviets occupying North.
- June 25th 1950 North Korea invades South
- US passed a Security Council resolution authorizing military intervention in Korea
- First two months, UN suffered major casualties
- UN major counter-offensive pushed NK past the 38th Parallel and almost to the Yalu River
- China joins war on NK side and pushes UN all the way back at the 38th Parallel
- Armistice signed on July 27th 1953 restoring border between the Koreas near the 38th Parallel
- UN forces lost 57,000 men
- Communist forces lost 100,000 men
- Basically we fought for nothing, since we were pushed all the way back to the 38th parallel, where we started.
