- He was involved in efforts to overturn segregation at the University of Mississippi.
- He became a feild secretary for the NAACP.
- Medgar was assassinated June 12, 1963 by Byron De La Beckwith
- Byron De La Beckwith was a member of white citizens' council.
- As a veteran, he was buried with full military honors.
- His murder and the resulting trials inspired civil rights protests, as well as numerous works of art, music, and film.
