2nd red scare by jeff phomphakdy

The second red scare was brought by the fall of China to communism and the success of testing a Soviet atomic bomb in 1949. Americans were sure espionage existed in the government. Senator Joseph McCarthy used the House of Un-american Activities Committee (HUAC) to level charges against the media, the government,  academics, political enemies, and all challengers. He was known for waving lists of government officials sympathetic to the communist party. He had only used anti-communism to boost his political career. Fear of McCarthy kept president Eisenhower from challenging him. When McCarthy accused the american army of communism, he lost credibility and was humiliated. During McCarthy's Red Scare, anyone challenged him was a suspected communist.
