                                                                   Duck and Cover

By Adrian Najar

During the cold war the United States thought it was likely for the USSR to drop an explosive hydrogen bomb in the US. This bomb would have a powerful explosion and a horrific aftermath, filled with radiation, some schools even had dog tags for students to identify their bodies if this event were ever to occur. To avoid these effects, the United States had created a "Safe and Simple" plan to protect themselves from the nuclear explosion, the FCDA (Federal Civil Defense Administration) created an educational video starring Bert the turtle. The procedure was really simple, duck near a safe and sturdy surrounding, and cover yourself from the explosion and exposure to radiation. This plan was supposed to protect you and keep you from harms way, but as time passed by we soon discovered that this safe and simple plan was not safe at all.
